Review - Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Melting Cleanser

A Sephora vai descontinuar a Algenist em Portugal… Porquê Sephora? Outra vez??!!! Fazem-me sempre isto…

Sephora is discontinuing Algenist in Portugal… Why Sephora? Again?? You always do this to me, make me love a brand and then take it away from me…. For those of you who don’t know, Algenist is a skincare brand and all of their products have an anti-oxidant potential from a molecule they called alguronic acid and with the clinical trials regarding such molecule with inconclusive results. Whatever. In my opinion they have some awesome formulations although not adequate for sensitive skin as they are heavy in perfume and colorants and things to make them look nice.

As the brand is currently with 50% off on Portuguese Sephora (ruuuuun!), I thought I’d treat myself with this Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Melting Cleanser which, even with 50% off, is not a cheap cleanser. The brand says it’s an innovative formula as it’s a gel that that transforms into an oil that transforms into a milk. I say it’s an oil gel (thiker oil) that emulsifies with water.

It’s meant to be used as a first generation “asian cleansing oil” by massaging it on a dry full face of makeup and slowly add water to emulsify.

First thing I must say: this product leaves an oily film on the skin and, for that reason, I would stay away from it if I had oily skin because it is meant for dry to combination skin. Then, second thing: the formula is brilliant! With an enormous amount of actually good quality emollients and only one surfactant, it’s very rare to see a cleanser with this amount of effort involved and without any mineral oil and other petrolatum derivatives in sight. Also they included a retinol (vitamin A) for a slight exfoliation and also to support their “anti-ageing” claim, of course.

C12-15 Alkyl benzoate, Ethylhexyl palmitate, Caprylic/Capric triglyceride, Glycerine, Water (Acqua), Sucrose laurate, Olea Europaea (Olive) fruit oil, Persea Gratissima (Advocado) oil, Chlorella Protothecoides oil, Algae Expolysaccharides, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (sweet almond) oil, Vaccinium Myrtillus seed oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylyl glycol, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxiethanol, Fragrance (Parfum), Chromium oxide greens (CI 77288), Benzyl Benzoate.

All in all, it’s an amazing product, it takes all the makeup in the most gentle way possible and it’s very efficient at doing it. I would advise to use a mousseline cloth or a towel to remove that above mentioned oily residue.

5/5 estrelas - Excelente!
